After claiming the Blackwater Pro-Am on Thursday, Marcus Cain has today shot the lowest round of the tournament to claim the 2015 Lunar Mining Emerald Pro-Am.
Cain’s bogey free 8-under 62 was good enough for a one shot win, after posting a 10-under par total over the two days. Overnight leader Tim Hart thought he had done enough after making birdie at the tough 414 metre par four 18th, but unfortunately for Hart it wouldn’t be enough, having to settle for outright second and one shot behind.
Cain has been in scintillating form over the past few weeks, with his only finish outside the top three coming at the Tieri Pro-Am last Tuesday.
"I have felt really comfortable on the course so far this Series and I guess that equates to shooting some good rounds," said Cain following his round.
"The courses have been in good shape this year, especially considering the low amount of rainfall each club has received over recent months. Hopefully I can continue to hole some putts over the remaining two events and give myself a chance of claiming the 2015 PCR Polyweld Mining Town Series."
With today’s win, Cain has now moved to within one shot of Hart in the race for the PCR Polyweld Mining Town Series. With only four rounds remaining, Hart sits atop the leaderboard at 29-under, with Cain one shot behind at 28-under. Sam Eaves and Adam Blyth find themselves a massive 16 shots behind Hart and will need a minor miracle if they are to claim this year’s series.
Josh Cabban continues to lead the way on the MLC Advice Nundah Sunshine Swing Order of Merit after his recent win at the South Pacific Export Papua New Guinea Open. However with the form Tim Hart has showed over the past week, it won’t be too long until we see a possible change at the top of the Order of Merit leaderboard.
After a hectic nine days Professionals will now enjoy a day off before preparing for the Moranbah Mini-Earth Moving Pro-Am, which tees off on Wednesday. Two-time champion Chris Wood will be the one to watch this week, looking to claim a third Moranbah Pro-Am title.
