Brown runs hot at Border Open

New South Welshman Mitchell Brown has consolidated his position at the top of the National rankings by winning the 59th Border Open by one shot.

New South Welshman Mitchell Brown has consolidated his position at the top of the National rankings by winning the 59th Border Open by one shot.

"MitchellBrown carded rounds of 66 and 68, for a 12-under total to win by one shot over Victorian David Bransdon.

After entering the final round three shots behind Adam Burdett, Brown posted a level par 37 on the front nine before charging home with a 5- under 31 on the back nine to take home the silverware.

Bransdon, the recently crowned Queensland Open Champion, was right in the thick of it.

He required a birdie on his final hole to force a playoff, however just fell short and finished in second place on his own.

"I’ve had a great time this week, thanks to everyone who worked to make the event the success it has been," said Brown at presentations.

Victorian Lucien Tinkler had an exception week posting rounds of 67 and 69 to finish alone in second place.  Tinkler, who mainly plays on the Legends Tour, pushed the younger players all the way to the end.

At the completion of play in the first round Adam Burdett held a three shot lead over Brown after firing a sensational 10-under 63.  Burdett’s round tied the course record set by last year’s winner Josh Younger.

Unfortunately for Burdett he backed up his first round up with a 2-over 75 to finish alone in sixth place, however, the future certainly looks bright for the Yarrawonga Trainee Professional.

The weather gods were smiling on the event with two perfect days for golf, early to mid 20 degree days with light to moderate winds, making birdies a must to stay in touch with the leaders.

With the Barham layout being presented in perfect condition, there’s no secret why the tournament has become so popular with the Professionals and amateurs.

Jarrod Lyle continued his preparation for the upcoming Tour schedule posting rounds of 74 and 69 to finish in a tie for 17th.

"I’ve still got a lot of work to do but things are coming together," said Lyle following his second round.

Commencing in Mildura earlier in the week, this year’s North Western Victorian swing of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series has seen some exceptional golf, two of the four events have seen equal course records posted.

The next event on the Southern Swing of the Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series is the $25,000 Mooroopna Numurkah Pro-am from October 22 to 23.
