It’s crunch time for the three Australians in the field at this week’s Portugal Masters on the European Tour, all three needing a good result to earn playing rights for 2017.

Veterans Brett Rumford and Richard Green are joined by second year member Jason Scrivener in the event, the final full field tournament before the Race to Dubai Finals Series begins.

All three are currently outside the top-110 cut off on the season long points table.

However, all are within touching distance of making the number, Scrivener 114th, Green 121st and Rumford 123rd.

All three have had their ups and downs in 2016, Rumford and Scrivener both getting off to brilliant starts at their home town event, the Perth International, in February.

But both struggled through the middle part of the season, Rumford missing seven straight cuts between May and August and Scrivener missing six over the same period.

Rumford will need a turnaround in form if he is to contend this week having missed the cut in three of his four appearances at the Victoria Clube de Golfe.

A T16 in his first appearance remains his best and a similar result this week may be enough to sneak into the top-110.

Meanwhile Scrivener has made just one appearance when he teed up last year and apart from one bad round he found the course to his liking.

Sitting mid-field after opening with 70-69, Scrivener posted an uncharacteristic 78 on Saturday after a horror back-9 of 42.

He hit back with a 4-under 67 in the final round and that will be what he looks to draw on with the pressure of this week.

For Richard Green the Portugal Masters has been a happy hunting ground, the third of his three European Tour titles coming here in 2010.

The 45-year-old has never missed the cut in the event though his victory aside has a best finish of T17.
