Big week for Aussies at Porsche European Open

It’s a week of big opportunities for several Australians as the European Tour heads to Germany for the Porsche European Open.

""Nathan Holman makes his first tournament start since May while Ash Hall and Dimi Papadatos receive sponsor’s invitations and Ryan McCarthy, Daniel Fox and Terry Pilkadaris all step up from the Challenge Tour for the week

With most of the Tour’s biggest stars taking the week off following The Open Championship, several of the game’s lesser lights have a chance to shine at the Green Eagle Golf Course in Hamburg.

Holman has endured a horror year on the Tour with just one cut made in 10 starts since January.

However, after a lengthy break from tournament play this week’s event offers the talented 26-year-old the perfect opportunity to ease back into competitive golf.

Holman’s last event was the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth in May where he withdrew after six holes of his opening round for unknown reasons.

Also looking to cash in on opportunity this week are Ash Hall and Dimi Papadatos, both of whom have earned sponsor invites to the event.

Hall will be disappointed to have missed the cut at last week’s Open but will be better for having played as he has had little tournament golf in 2017.

Papadatos had a brilliant start ton the year in Australian with wins at both the Oates Vic Open and the TX Civil & Logistics WA PGA Championship but is yet to settle in Europe.

He has made just one cut in four Challenge Tour starts since arriving in June though will be motivated by the higher stakes being played for this week.

Daniel Fox, Ryan McCarthy and Terry Pilkadaris will be feeling the same way given the limited opportunities to step up from the secondary Tour.

Fox comes into the week with the confidence of having posted his best finish of the Challenge Tour season in France while McCarthy will still be on a high from making his major debut at The Open.

Richard Green rounds out the Australian challenge in Germany, the European Tour veteran making just his seventh start since losing his full card last year and hoping for a good week as he tries to make his way back to the Tour.
