The return of the once prestigious Singapore Open after a three-year absence from the schedule will boast 15 Australians vying for a chance to upstage World Number 1 Jordan Spieth.

"BrendanThe tournament, now co-sanctioned by the Asian and Japan Tours, was last played in 2012 as a European Tour co-sanctioned event and won by Matteo Manassero.

Led by Japan Tour standout Brendan Jones, the 15 Australians will be trying to become the ninth from this country to hoist the trophy, Adam Scott the last to do so when he claimed his third Singapore Open in 2010.

Jones is one of five to get a start courtesy of his Japan Tour membership with Adam Bland, Matt Griffin, Brad Kennedy and Scott Strange also teeing up.

From the Asian Tour, Sam Brazel, Terry Pilkadaris, Scott Barr, Kalem Richardson, Adam Groom and Unho Park get starts while Jordan Zunic, Aron price and Nick Cullen are among 12 players from ASEAN, Australia, Korea and China to receive an invite.

David Gleeson is the final Australian in the field and is playing on a sponsor’s invitation.
World Number 1 Spieth is headlining a strong field which includes Ryder Cup captain Darren Clarke and 2009 US PGA winner Y.E Yang meaning the Australians will have their work cut out to post victory.

However, for the Asian Tour players in particular, the week is a big opportunity to perhaps earn membership of the more lucrative Japan Tour with a win.
