Ray Beaufils has ridden a brilliant third
round 64 to a top-20 finish in the third event of the PGA Tour China Series.
Eight birdies and no bogies saw Beaufils
jump from mid-field to the top-10 through 54 holes, the 8-under score his best
in three seasons on the newly established Tour.
The result marks a much needed turnaround
in form for Beaufils who missed the cut in each of the first two events of the
year.
While Saturday was the highlight it wasn’t
the only good play from Beaufils for the week, scores of 72, 67 and 70 taking
him to 15-under for the 72 holes and T19.
Veteran David McKenzie also finished at
that mark with weekend rounds of 66-67 to go with a pair of 70’s overt the
first two days.
Daniel Nisbet and Michael Sim were a shot
further back and T22, Nisbet’s final round 66 a highlight of his week.
Max McCardle, whose play in the first two
events of the season has been superb, wasn’t quite as sharp this week with
record low scoring from the field.
His 13-under total for the 72 holes was
good for T28 and while he slipped out of the top-5 on the Order of Merit is
still inside the top-10, presently lying eighth.
Chris Wood and Mitch Davis (T28), Taylor
Cooper (T38), Rohan Blizard (T41), Jack Munro and Peter Martin (T47), James
Gibellini and Jake Stirling (T65) and Scott Laycock (71st) were the
other Australians to make the cut.
Lincoln Tighe, Peter Cooke, Jake Younan,
Gavin Flint, Jake Higginbottom, Michael Willis, Chris Brown, Alex Hawley and
Andrew Evans all missed the cut while David Lutterus withdrew after an opening
round 79.
