Brisbane Golf Club played host to the E-Z-GO PGA Legends players today in perfect weather conditions.
A winning score of a 3-under
68 was shot by Richard Backwell who recently returned from competing in the
British Senior Open.
Backwell birdied the 1st
and 7th holes to finish 2-under the card on the front nine.
A bogey free back nine and a
birdie on the last gave Backwell a one shot lead over David Merriman who won at
Royal Queensland last Friday.
"There were a number of
players out there with the opportunity to win. My short game and play around
the greens I think was the factor that allowed me to finish on top" said
Backwell.
With the knowledge that
Brisbane Golf Club will play host to the Queensland Open for the next three
years, many of the players were interested in seeing the layout.
Now the second year hosting
the Legends, Brisbane is looking to continue to support the Tour in 2016.
Players will now have the weekend to prepare for the next
event at Carbrook Golf tomorrow before hitting the road and heading out to the
more regional areas of Queensland.
