Adam Bland’s history making win at the Japan PGA Championship at the weekend has propelled him to the top of the money list ahead of New Zealand’s Michael Hendry.
Hendry won the first event of the season
but the Japan PGA is one of the richest events on the schedule and Bland’s
cheque for AU$312,000 has him more than AU$20,000 ahead.
The South Australian left hander is the
first Australian to win the Japan PGA in its 42-year history and one of only
five non-Japanese born winners.
While Bland finished three ahead of the
field Scott Strange also had a good week finishing in a share of fourth
It was Strange’s best result in the three
events this season and came on the back of three sub-70 rounds.
His final round 4-under 68 moved him from
outside the top-10 into the top five and with almost AU$70,000 in earnings he
is 14th on the money list.
Michael Hendry was next best of the
Australasians in a share of 11th followed by Brad Kennedy (T31),
Kurt Barnes (T50) and Steve Conran (T58).
Peter Wilson, Brendan Jones, David Smail
and Paul Sheehan all missed the 36-hole cut.
