A homegrown diet of windy conditions proved beneficial for the Australian contingent with four finishing inside the top 20 at the Web.com Tour’s The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic.

Brett Coletta and Cameron Percy were the best of the Aussies in a tie for 11th where conditions made scoring difficult all week, Puerto Rican Rafael Campos winning by a single stroke with a four-round total of 8-under par.

The opening round was suspended due to inclement weather and the wind rarely let up over the four days, Coletta’s even par round of 72 moving him up seven spots on the leaderboard in the final round.

Starting round four with two straight birdies, Coletta made the turn in even par and had three birdies and three bogeys on the back nine, a six at the par-5 finishing hole preventing him from lodging a top-10 finish.

Double bogeys at the ninth and 11th holes did the majority of the damage in Percy’s final round of 5-over 77 as he logged his second consecutive top-20 finish to start the season.

A 2-under par 70 saw Kiwi Steven Alker continue his excellent form to start 2019, moving up 25 spots on the last day to finish tied for 17th alongside both Jamie Arnold and Rhein Gibson.

With three birdies on a blemish-free front nine Arnold looked like making major inroads on the leaderboard until enduring a roller-coaster of a back nine.

Birdies at the 14th and 16th holes were the highlight but he made four bogeys and a double bogey to ultimately sign for a 1-over 73.

Gibson’s final round could also have been better if not for a triple bogey seven at the par-4 ninth in a round of 2-over 74.

New Zealand’s Tim Wilkinson and Brett Drewitt also made the cut but finished well down the leaderboard in a tie for 52nd, Drewitt racking up a disastrous quadruple bogey nine on the final hole of the tournament.

The Web.com Tour returns to a Thursday start from next week with the Country Club de Bogota Championship in Colombia.
