Coming off a lengthy break from competitive golf the 30-year-old showed signs of rust with a 3-over-par opening round but hit back on day two to go to the weekend even par.

A slow start to round three saw him drop to T32 and that’s where he finished after an even par round to close out the week.

The former top ranked amateur proved his game is in good shape with 17 birdies for the week but more competitive golf is likely required to eliminate some mistakes from his game.

Daniel Gaunt also finished T32 at 2-over in his second Challenge Tour start for the year while David Bransdon made a positive debut on the secondary European Tour.

An opening round 68 had the Queensland Open champion in a share of 10th through 18 holes but rounds of 71-74-71 saw him slip back to T44 by week’s end.

Bransdon will get a chance to build on that start to his Challenge Tour career when he tees up again this week in the Turkish Airlines Challenge.
