Sydney’s Jamie Arnold has fired the equal lowest score of the final round to secure the best finish of his rookie season on the Web.com Tour.

Arnold produced a 4-under 68 on Sunday at the Ivanhoe Golf Club to jump 19 places up the leaderboard to T4 at the Rust Oleum Championship in Illinois.

The performance is a particularly important one for Arnold who missed his sixth cut of the season last week just as he was showing signs of form.

His play this week confirms his game is heading in the right direction with the added bonus

of jumping him more than 40 places up the all-important money list.

Arnold is now 52^nd on the earnings table, the goal of top-25 and a PGA TOUR card for 2018 now within reach as the season heads towards the halfway mark.

Mark Hensby was next best of the Australians and while his Sunday play was disappointing the 45-year-old will take a lot of positives from a T17 finish.

The former Presidents Cup player opened the tournament with an impressive 66 to share second place and held on with back to back even par rounds to head to Sunday inside the top-10.

A double bogey on the opening hole of the last round was hardly the start he was looking for and he never found the magic from Thursday on his way to closing with a 74.

However, after several years battling injury and poor form a top-20 finish is encouraging and Hensby will no doubt be taking the positives from his performance.

Steve Allan was the last of the Australians to make the cut and finished T70 after a disappointing weekend.

Peter Lonard, Rhein Gibson, Michael Sim and Robert Allenby all missed the weekend’s play.
