Three-time China Golf Tour winner Maverick Antcliff will be out to convert a stunning season in China into a passageway into Europe when he leads a strong Aussie contingent at this week’s Hainan Open at Sanya Luhuitou Golf Club on Hainan Island.
The first of two consecutive European Challenge Tour tournaments to be held in China, the Hainan Open comes with exemptions for 60 players from the domestic tour run by the China Golf Association.
Courtesy of back-to-back wins at the Bo Ao Open and Shenzhou Peninsula Open in April and a third win at the Beijing Open in June, Antcliff is the runaway leader at the top of the CGA Tour Order of Merit with more than double the prizemoney of his nearest challenger.

In addition to his three victories Antcliff has four further top-five finishes and three more top 10s to rise more than 300 spots on the Official World Golf Ranking at the end of 2018 to be now ranked 241st in the world.
Other Aussies joining Antcliff in the field courtesy of the CGA hoping to play their way into Europe with a win this week are Cory Crawford, Jackson Dick, regular Challenge Tour player Ben Eccles, Simon Hawkes, Bryden Macpherson, Kade McBride, Linus Yip and Kevin Yuan.
Yuan is the next best on the CGA Order of Merit behind Antcliff in 10th spot with McBride (12th) and Macpherson (16th) also sitting inside the top 20.
With the top 15 on the Road to Mallorca standings at the end of the year progressing to the European Tour in 2020, New Zealand’s Josh Geary will be out to advance from his current position of 20th with three events left to play.
Other Kiwis in the Hainan Open field via the CGA exemption are Kieran Muir, Hayden Beard and Fraser Wilkin.
