This coming WA Day long weekend in Western Australia marks the return of the Nexus Risk Services South West Open as part of the WA Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series.

Hosting one of the strongest fields assembled in years, the $35,000 event will see two Australian Champions tee it up together, vying for a title they don’t wish to share.

The golf industry was divided in December 2002 when the loss of light at the Australian PGA Championship meant Peter Lonard and Jarrod Moseley shook hands after one play-off hole and agreed to share the illustrious title.

While the two have played many events on global tours together since the controversial decision, the South West Open will be the first time the two have played in the same field in many years.

Former European Tour winner and 1999 PGA Tour of Australasia Order of Merit winner Jarrod Moseley will be welcomed back to competitive golf after stepping away from the game in 2012 to take on a Productions and Operations FIFO role in the iron ore industry.

“I’ve have missed the competitive part of the game, that’s for sure,” said Moseley.

“I still play socially but I really wanted to dip my toe back into tournament golf and the South West Open is a sensational event that is close to home, so it’s the perfect event to come back to.”

Having not played in a professional event in seven years, Moseley said he has mixed emotions heading into round one.

“I haven’t had nerves like this for a long time but can’t wait to tee it up on Saturday and hopefully get back some of those great feelings being out on course again,” Moseley added.

“No matter the result, it will just be great to be back playing the game that has given me so much.”

Moseley will be joined by his 2002 Australian PGA Championship co-winner Peter Lonard who has been enjoying the Ladbrokes Pro-Am Series in Perth over the past few weeks.

Lonard took advantage of a couple of days break in the schedule by heading to Bunbury Golf Club early to get a sneak peak of the tricky track.

“The course looks absolutely sensational, like I remember it back in the day and I’m really looking forward to playing this fantastic event again,” Lonard said.

“I was here around 25 years ago travelling the whole swing with my mates, now it’s great to be able to do it with the family.

“I’ve really enjoyed seeing a lot of the guys over the past few weeks and it will be great to catch up with Mose again after all these years!”

The strong field will be further boosted by current WA PGA Champion Michael Long, European and Asian tour player Terry Pilkadaris and 2018 South West Open Winner, Braden Becker.

The players will tee it up in the Qube Port and Bulk Sponsors Day on Friday, with round one teeing off Saturday morning from 7.15am at Bunbury Golf Club.
