PGA Life Member, Kel Nagle who was selected earlier this year for induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame through the Veterans Category, will be personally presented with his Hall of Fame Inductee Crystal on Saturday 15 December at the Australian Golf Writers Association (AGWA) annual dinner at Concord Golf Club in Sydney.
PGA Life Member, Kel Nagle who was selected earlier this year for induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame through the Veterans Category, will be personally presented with his Hall of Fame Inductee Crystal on Saturday 15 December at the Australian Golf Writers Association (AGWA) annual dinner at Concord Golf Club in Sydney.
Jack Peter, Chief Operating Officer of the World Golf Hall of Fame will be on hand to present the crystal to Mr Nagle who is unable to make the journey to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony in St. Augustine Florida on November 12. Attendees at the AGWA dinner will include many of Australia’s finest golfers past and present, administrators and members of the Australian media. Mr Peter’s trip to Sydney is being sponsored in part by World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman and Great White Shark Enterprises and the AGWA so that Mr Nagle can be honoured at the AGWA dinner as one of Australia’s most respected golfers.
Speaking from the World Golf Hall of Fame, Mr Peter said, "Kel Nagle is a most welcome addition to the Hall of Fame membership. It is the Hall’s distinct mission to recognise and celebrate the game’s greatest players and contributors and Kel plays an important role in the history of the sport, especially as it relates to the progress of golf in Australia. I look forward to presenting him with his Inductee Crystal at the AGWA dinner in December and I want to offer my sincere gratitude to Greg Norman and Great White Shark Enterprises and to the AGWA for their assistance in making it happen."
Greg Norman commenting from Melbourne where he is to be inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame as its 27th Legend said, "Kel had a tremendous career, and I am extremely pleased that the World Golf Hall of Fame has chosen to recognise his many achievements and make him the fifth Australian inducted," He went on "I am privileged to help make this evening special for Kel and it is unfortunate that he cannot make it to the ceremony in Florida next month, but I know Jack Peter and the AGWA will make this evening one for him to remember."
Australian Golf Writers Association President Mr Peter Stone said in Sydney, "Kel Nagle is one of the most humble unpretentious greats of the game ever who has now been recognised for his achievements in golf and his contribution to our great game with his induction into the World Golf Hall of Fame next month in his absence in Florida. I am thrilled and I know that our members will be also, that Jack Peter Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the World Golf Hall of Fame will be with us in Sydney at the AGWA annual dinner to present Kel with his Inductee Crystal in person which will indeed be one of the more memorable moments of Australian golf. From his home in Sydney, Kel Nagle said, "I am deeply honoured that Jack Peter is making the trip to Australia to present me personally with my Induction Crystal to signify my entry into this august body. I want to thank Greg Norman and the Australian Golf Writers Association for helping to make Mr Peter’s trip possible. This is something that my family and I will cherish forever."
Kel Nagle is best known for his 1960 Open Championship victory at St. Andrews and a notable career comprising of 61 international wins. Mr Nagle is also well remembered along with fellow Hall of Fame member Peter Thomson for their 1954 and 1959 World Cup victories.
The Australian Golf Writers Association annual dinner is attended by many who are involved in the game at playing and administrative levels. It also incorporates the presentation of the Australian Golf Media Awards, sponsored by the PGA, PGA Tour, ALPG and Golf Australia and the presentations of the AGWA Honouree of the Year and the Rookie of the Year Awards.
