Australian Mathew Goggin has surged to victory in the first Nationwide Tour event of the season in Panama.

Trailing by four shots heading into the final round at the Club de Golf de Panama, Goggin shot a solid two-under-par round of 68 to finish at 11-under overall.

He saluted by two shots from compatriot Alistair Presnell and American Darron Stiles.

Starting the final round in second place, Presnell’s round fell to pieces on the 15th when he posted the first of three successive bogeys to fall out of contention.

Overnight leader Erik Compton also faltered as he failed to hit a birdie in his final round to post a 75 and fall back to a tie for fourth place at eight-under.

Gavin Coles was another Australian to perform well as he finished a further stroke back in a tie for sixth, while Andrew Buckle and Scott Gardiner tied for 18th.
