Peter Fowler shot the equal best score of the final round at the Open de Portugal to rocket into the top-10 and claim top Australian honours for the week.

Fowler struggled over the first two rounds to be even par for the week heading to the final day but caught fire on Sunday with a 7-under 65 which leapfrogged him 27 places up the leader board to T10.

The former Australian Open winner rolled in four straight birdies from the second hole to turn 4-under then added three more on the back.

Mike Harwood also saved his best till last with a 4-under 68 Sunday but opening rounds of 76-74 left him too much to do and he eventually finished T44.

Q-School graduate Glenn Joyner, playing just his second event since earning his card at the start of the year, opened with a promising 2-under 70 but faded with rounds of 76-73 to be T49.

New Zealand’s Greg Turner made a rare appearance on the over 50′s circuit and entered the final round in a share of second place.

After opening with rounds of 68-67 he looked to be in with a genuine chance but faded Sunday with an even par 72 to finish T5.
