Armstrong goes back to back and shoots 59

New South Welshman Bradley Armstrong has shot to the top of Australian golf in a matter of days after firing an eight-under-par 59 to win the Leonay Pro-Am by six shots.

It comes just two days after he dominated the field to win by three-shots at the Muirfield Pro-Am on Wednesday with a five-under-par round of 64.

Brad Armstrong is not a name many golf enthusiasts will be familiar with, until now that is.

The quietly spoken 38-yr-old teaching professional from Hudson Park driving range in Sydney’s Inner West says "it has just been a bit of a purple patch with the putter".

"I had 20 putts on Friday at Leonay which is pretty remarkable and its hard to not shoot a good score when they fall in from everywhere" added Armstrong.

"I have been just really trying to trust my decision making on the greens and trust the line and its certainly helping at the moment".

Armstrong also attributed the recent surge of success to his caddie who came on board at Muirfield and together decided they should keep it going at Leonay, which they did in style.

Armstrong’s remarkable round of 59 included a bogey on the par-five 11th hole where an errant drive forced him to chip out sideways, from which point, he was only able to leave himself a 10-ft putt for par which lipped out.

Despite the bogey on 11, nine birdies were enough to equal the low 18 hole record on the NSW/ACT Pro-Am circuit which is also shared by Leigh McKechnie.

It was a special day for a young Asquith Golf Club Trainee by the name of Tristan Morey who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Friday with a sensational hole-in-one on the second hole at Leonay.

The ace helped Morey to a career best result in a tie-for fourth, one shot behind joint runners-up Joel Graham and Mitchell Brown who posted rounds of two-under-par 65.

Armstrong will be shooting for the trifecta on Wednesday when he joins another stellar field at the Kendall Binns Cadet Foundation Pro-Am at Pennant Hills Golf Club.

The Choice Hotels PGA Pro-Am Series continues throughout New South Wales in the coming months with events in Sydney and the greater Newcastle-Hunter region.

For the amateurs who play in any Choice Hotels PGA Pro Am Series event throughout 2014, they will be eligible to win ‘The Golf Trip of a Lifetime’ to Mission Hills Golf Resort, China. Included in the prize will be return flights to Hong Kong, four nights accommodation, three rounds of golf and $1,000 in spending money.
