Chalmers lost his full card last year but has been issued an invite while Smith is in the field courtesy of his top 10 position on the Asian Tour money list at the conclusion of the Hong Kong Open.
The seven strong Australian contingent, including Steven Bowditch, Matt Jones, John Senden, Marc Leishman and Robert Allenby have all made journey to Malaysia.
This is the second appearance of the year for Leishman who is well down the FedEx Cup points list after finishing mid field at the first event of the year, the Fry’s.com Open.
Senden also plays his second event of the year after a top-20 finish at the Shriner’s Hospital event two weeks ago, while Matt Jones will look to make his first cut of the year after missing the weekend at the Fry’s.
However it is Smith and Chalmers who have the most to play for with a PGA TOUR card on offer for a win this week.
This year has seen Smith in top form on the Asian Tour playing eight events and finishing outside the top-10 only twice, the last time in June.
Smith’s most recent finish was a T9 at the Hong Kong Open a fortnight ago, the US$26,346 he earned that week crucial in gaining him a start at this week’s tournament as it kept him inside the top-10 on the money list.
For Chalmers a good performance may be a springboard to more invites on the main TOUR this year after a disappointing 2014 saw him relegated to the secondary Web.com Tour.
The left hander comes into the week with decent form having finished under par and top 30 at last week’s 2014 ISPS HANDA Perth International.
The CIMB Classic is a co-sanctioned event with the Asian Tour.
