South Australian Wade Ormsby was a late inclusion to the Turkish Airlines Open on the European Tour this week.
The tournament, part of the Race to Dubai Finals Series, is made up of the top-60 finishers on the European Tour’s rankings following the Perth International.
Despite a top-10 finish in Perth, Ormsby finished 78th on the money list but finds himself in this week’s field thanks to some players inside the top-60 opting to take the week off.
Making the most of the opportunity, Ormsby opened his first round with a birdie but it was the end to his round that was most impressive.
He opened the back nine with two consecutive birdies before a bogey snuck onto his scorecard.
Ormsby went onto birdie his last six holes to record a 7-under 65 which has him tied third on the leaderboard.
The most interesting man in golf, Miguel Angel Jimenez continues to be in the spotlight shooting a flawless 9-under 63 to lead the field.
Jimenez round was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 10th hole.
Sitting a shot further back on the leaderboard is another one of the sport’s colourful characters, Ian Poulter.
He rattled off an eagle, seven birdies and one bogey as he posted an 8-under 64.
The only other Australian in the field, Richard Green, had a first round of 1-under the card to be T46 on the leaderboard.
