Ormsby took a one shot lead into Sunday’s final round ahead of a strong chasing pack but having made birdie at the par-5 first in each of the first three rounds posted a clumsy six on Sunday to immediately lose the lead.

Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter, starting the day one behind and playing in the final group with Ormsby, made a comfortable four and grabbed back the outright lead he had forfeited with a Saturday 75.

While Ormsby regrouped with back to back birdies at the third and fourth he never regained a share of the lead and as others went low he made the turn at even par courtesy of three bogies and three birdies.

An eventual round of 1-under 71 was never going to be enough to get the job done on a day when 28 players broke 70 including 17 with scores of 67 or better.

While no doubt disappointed with the end result Ormsby will take plenty of confidence into the 2015 European season after his most consistent year to date as a Professional.

After eight trips to Q-School, six of them resulting in earning a card, Ormsby displayed a level of maturity in 2014 not previously evident in his game and will rightfully head to 2015 with elevated expectations.

Richard Green was the only other Australian in this week’s field and played decent – though unspectacular – golf to finish in a share of 39th.
