Kennedy tops in disappointing week

It was a disappointing week for the Australasian contingent at the Japan Golf tour’s Visa Taiheiyo Masters with Brad Kennedy taking top honours in a share of 30th for the week.

Kennedy completed the four rounds at 2-under the card, 10 shots behind winner David Oh and two ahead of next best Brendan Jones.

Jones entered the final round five shots off the pace in a share of 12th and would have felt he was in with a chance but stumbled badly on Sunday with a disastrous 5-over 77.

The unexpected poor golf dropped him 25 places down the leader board and much of the blame can be attributed to his recent switch to the short putter.

Jones amassed 34 strokes on Sunday, too many at this level, and is clearly still coming to terms with the short putter after using the broomstick for more than a decade.

David Smail (T43), Steve Conran (T53), Scott Strange and Kurt Barnes (both T63) were the other Australasians in the field and while all made the cut all will be disappointed with their results.

Kennedy remains the top Australasian on the money list in 30th place ahead od Adam Bland (34th) and Michael Hendry (45th).
