Wade Ormsby has achieved his goal of playing the Race to Dubai finals after his T4 finish in Turkey last week catapulted him into the top 60 earners and a spot in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Ormsby, six times a Q-School graduate on the European Tour, told pga.org.au in April that his goal for 2014 was to be in the top 60 at year’s end for the first time in his career.
"That’s definitely a goal now and one that’s achievable," Ormsby said at the time.
"I’ve never been inside that top 60 at the end of the year but I’m aiming to do it this year and I can’t see any reason why I can’t."
While he finished the year 78th in the standings Ormsby earned a start at the third of the four Finals Series events at last week’s Turkish Airlines Open and made the most of the opportunity with a top five finish and a cheque for €394,625.
That was enough to move into the top 60 and book a ticket to Dubai, the only Australian player to qualify in 2014.
"I’m off to Dubai now! Yeeeeeewww!" Ormsby tweeted after his round Sunday.
The South Australian will be up against a strong field in the richest event on the European Tour schedule with World No 1 Rory McIlroy returning to action this week along with Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia and 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose.
