New South Welshman Scott Arnold holds a handy lead heading into the final round of the Nanshan NSW PGA Championship.
After heavy storms hit Riverside Oaks Golf Resort late yesterday afternoon play was suspended with the field returning at 7am this morning to finish the second round.
Scott Arnold closed his second round with a bogey, double bogey but a quick phone call with his coach, PGA Professional Alex Mercer turned his form around ahead of the third round.
"I am pretty happy, especially after how I finished this morning, bogey, double, that didn’t go down very well," said Arnold.
"I just didn’t feel comfortable this morning. My swing felt a little bit off. I rang my coach before I went back out and it all seemed to click this afternoon."
"I told him some of the shots that I hit this morning and a he gave me few little things I could do to fix it."
"As soon as I went to the range it started to feel like it did the first two days."
Opening with a birdie, Arnold added a further eight to his card for a bogey free 9-under 62 to ensure he starts the final round with a four shot lead.
"I had two putts that weren’t makeable. I hit it in close almost every hole, once I got going it sort of felt normal, like I was making pars but they were actually birdies," added Arnold who believes it could have been even lower.
"I had two 15 footers on the last two for birdies, I shaved the edge on 17 and I pushed it a little bit on the last and it just missed the hole."
While Arnold might have had the round of the day to catapult himself into the lead he believes all the credit should go to the dedicated course maintenance team.
"The green keepers have done an amazing job, you wouldn’t even know there was a storm," added Arnold.
"There are a few little wet areas but the greens are great."
"I heard they were here from 2.30am so all credit to them."
While Arnold has set himself up with a nice four shot buffer than man closest to him is WA PGA Champion Ryan Lynch who overcame a six shot deficit to win in Kalgoorlie.
"It’s always nice to be up there, but there is a little bit to do with Scotty (Arnold) going so low today," said Lynch who fired a third round of 5-under 66.
"Anything is possible in this game so we will just have to wait and see."
Sitting a shot behind Lynch and rounding out the top-5 on 12-under the card are Grant Thomas (NSW), Lincoln Tighe (NSW) and amateur Troy Moses (NSW).
The final round of the Nanshan NSW PGA Championship will tee off at 8.30am with the final group on the course at 10am.
