Wade Ormsby and Scott Strange are tied for the lead at the halfway mark of the Australian PGA Championship.

After a weather interrupted Thursday the first round was completed early this morning at RACV Royal Pines Resort with the second round immediately following.

Playing in the afternoon field Scott Strange fired the round of the day with a 6-under 66 to tie Wade Ormsby, who had a second round 5-under 67, on 9-under the card.

"I think we got the right side of the draw with the storms and that rolling in yesterday and this morning with the rain," said Strange.

"So I took advantage of it and played nice today."

The leading pair will play together tomorrow alongside defending champion Adam Scott who is two shots back and outright third.

Ormsby has had an impressive year competing on the European Tour where he made 23 cuts and achieved one of his goals.

"I wanted to play a Major this year, I did not and I wanted to have a win and make the race to Dubai," said Ormsby who finished 51st on the Race to Dubai following the season ending tournament.

"I’ve done one of the three so hopefully I can change that on Sunday night."

Ormsby is the son of PGA Life Member Peter Ormsby so if he were to achieve his goal it would be a momentous accomplishment in his career.

"My father’s a PGA Member; he’s been a part of the PGA for 40 odd years, so the PGA’s a big part of our family," added Ormsby.

"It would mean a lot to me as a family."

"From a professional point of view, to get a win on home soil would be massive."

"I think I’ve had a pretty good year and a win would be a nice way to top it off."

There is plenty of golf still to be played but Ormsby believes he will feel comfortable on course alongside World Number 3 Adam Scott.

"You’ve got to enjoy it when you’re around those big guys, especially a mate, its great fun," added Ormsby.

"I’m sure there’ll be a few jokes out there if we are playing together but I’ll just keep trying to do what I’m doing, speak to my caddy and try and get the job done."

Overnight leader Boo Weekley had an even par round to be outright fourth on the leaderboard heading into the weekend.

Rounding out the top-5 on 5-under the card are Nick Cullen (SA), Jin Jeong (KOR), Kristopher Mueck (VIC), David Smail (NZ), Jason Scrivener (WA) and Craig Hancock (TAS).

The second round cut was made at even par with 62 Professionals making the weekend rounds.

The third round will tee off at 9.20am with the final group on course at 11.10am.
