New Zealand’s Michael Hendry has made the most of moving day returning the lowest score of the round with a 5-under 67.

""Starting the round at 3-under the card in T14 position, Hendry acknowledged that it is tougher than it looks on course.

"I got off to a solid start and managed to make a few birdies through the middle, through the easier holes today; so it was good," said Hendry.

Leading into the Australian PGA Championship, Hendry has had mixed emotions.

Earlier this year he secured his 2015 Japanese Tour card, allowing him to return home and spend time with his wife and new daughter while working on his game.

"I think I was searching a little bit over the last few months, my form wasn’t quite there," added Hendry.

"Whenever you do that you’re trying something different every day and there’s no way you’re going to be consistent."

"Sort of gave myself a little bit of a talking to and sort of tried to be more and more consistent with what I’ve done off the golf course in terms of my practice and gym work and things like that.

"I think it’s starting to pay fruition right at the end of the year."

Sitting in outright 6th position, Hendry will be looking to stay close to the top and finish 2014 in winning form.

"It’s just nice to be in a position to have a chance," added Hendry.

"It’s been probably six or seven months since I’ve been at the very top end of a tournament, so I’m just looking forward to the opportunity and hopefully I can play well again tomorrow."

Over the past two years Michael Hendry has been one of the most consistent performers on the PGA Tour of Australasia recording 10 top-10 finishes including back-to-back victories at the NZ PGA Championship.
