Jason Scrivener is off to an impressive start to his European Tour career finishing just one shot outside the top 10 at the South African Open at the weekend.

""Scrivener, who was born in South Africa, made his European Tour debut at the event after earning status at the Qualifying School in November.

The 25-year-old showed little in the way of nerves on the big stage despite opening with a 1-over-par round to be well back in the pack.

He improved with an even par round on day two but made his biggest move during the third round with an impressive 6-under 66, a score bettered by only one player on the day.

The seven birdie/one bogey round moved him inside the top 15 and he held his nerve during the final round to post a 1-under 71 and finish T11.

The cheque for €17,300 puts him 51st on the season long Race to Dubai rankings with three events now completed.

Scrivener was the only Australian to tee up in South Africa though five Australians will be in the field for this week’s Abu Dhabi Championship.

Scrivener and fellow Q-School graduate Andrew Dodt are entered for that event but their status won’t gain them automatic entry, both relying on other players withdrawing in order to gain a start.
