Eight Aussies make Asian Tour final stage


Matthew Giles heads a list of eight Australians to have booked their place in the final stage of Asian Tour Q-School after the first wave of stage one qualifying finished at the weekend.

Matthew Giles heads a list of eight Australians to have booked their place in the final stage of Asian Tour Q-School after the first wave of stage one qualifying finished at the weekend.

Giles finished atop the leader board at the Lake View course in Thailand to be one of four Australians inside the top 22 and earn their way through.

At the Khon Kaen course Matt Jager finished second by a shot to also be one of four Australians among the nine to graduate from that venue.

The Australians to qualify are Jager, Chris Gaunt, Rohan Blizard and Jarrod John Freeman at the Khon Kaen course with Giles, Kevin Lee, Andrew Martin and Daniel Nisbet at the Lake View course.

In all 31 players qualified from the two venues with a second round of stage one qualifying to begin on Wednesday.

There are 37 Australians in the field for the second wave with those who get through in the running for one of 40 cards to be handed out at final stage which tees off on January 21.
