Starting round 4 in a tie for 15th, Day went on a birdie run recording eight birdies in a ten hole stretch and is currently sitting in outright 3rd at 17-under par, just two shots behind leaders Hideki Matsuyama from Japan and American Jimmy Walker.
With the 15th and 18th both being par-5’s the World Number 8 will be looking to equal if not better Chris Kirks round from earlier today which saw the American record an 11-under par 62 to advance up the leaderboard.
Day, who won the 2014 World Golf Championships Accenture Match-Play Championship to qualify for the winners only tournament in Hawaii, will be looking to start 2015 off strong with a win Kapalua Resort.
