Smith jets into the field….

Queensland young gun Cameron Smith has jetted into the country to take his
place in the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship this week. In just his
second year as a Professional, Smith had a breakout season in 2014 with three
top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour of Australasia as well as seven top-10, five
consecutively, on the Asian Tour. However Smith really made a name for himself
on the international stage when he finished tied 5th at the PGA TOUR
co-sanctioned CIMB Classic. Since this time Smith has earned a place in the field
for a further four PGA TOUR tournaments, most recently competing at last week’s
AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am where he unfortunately missed the cut. "It
was a good experience. I didn’t really play the way I wanted to but hopefully I
can come out here and show what I learnt," said Smith. This is his first time
competing in the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship as a Professional but Smith
certainly has a good track record at City Golf Club, as an amateur he finished
tied 4th in 2012 and 2013. "I like the course, you have to drive it straight
and hit heaps of wedge shots, which is kind of my game. Hopefully I can back it
up with another good one, I feel pretty confident around the course," added
Smith.

Tour veteran tees up for
the first time….

City Golf Club and Toowoomba are buzzing with one of Australia’s most prolific
winners Peter Lonard teeing up at the Coca-Cola Queensland PGA Championship for
the first time since the area has hosted the prestigious tournament. Competing
in the pro-am today Lonard was a popular figure on the putting green as he
chatted with fans ahead of taking his first look at the course. While Lonard
might not be the longest hitter on the PGA Tour of Australasia he is accurate off
the tee which is an advantage on the narrow City Golf Club layout. But the 47-year-old
is weary of the upcoming stars, "Winning is hard anywhere in the world and
Australia has plenty of talented young kids coming through."

Champions in the field….
While there might be plenty of up and coming stars in the field this week there
are plenty of proven champions too. This week we have players competing who
have won on all the major tours around the world including the PGA TOUR (1),
European Tour (5), Web.com Tour (8), Japan Tour (4), Asian Tour (3), OneAsia
(1) and even the European Seniors Tour (1). Of the players in the field this
week 29 have already registered victories on the PGA Tour of Australasia with
the group holding 71 titles amongst them.
