Australian fans will only have two players to cheer for this week with Marc Leishman and Robert Allenby the only two representatives at the Honda Classic.
Adam Scott hinted earlier in the year he would make his
return to the game at the Honda but the birth of daughter Bo two weeks ago has
delayed his plans and he is now likely to tee up next week at Doral.
Allenby has some good results in his 14 appearances at the
Honda with three top-5’s at the PGA National course since the tournament moved
there in 2007.
After a disappointing performance at Riviera last week, a
course he has nominated as one of his favourites on the PGA TOUR, the
43-year-old will be looking to turn things around this week.
While he has missed the cut three times since 2010 Allenby
has shown a previous liking for the course finishing T5, T4 and T5 between 2007
and 2009.
However, his form since the start of the New Year has been
less than good with four consecutive missed cuts. He also missed the final cut
of 2014 at the Mayakoba Classic.
Marc Leishman tees up for just the third time since
Christmas and will be looking to improve on his missed cut at Riviera last
week.
He has finished mid field in his other two starts but, like
many players, will consider this week the official beginning of the lead up to
April’s US Masters.
This will be Leishman’s fifth appearance at the Honda but
with a best finish of T17 in both 2010 and 2011 he will need to find something
if he is to contend this week.
