The last of four co-sanctioned events between the Asian and European Tours plays out in Mauritius this week with nine Australians looking to step up to the world’s second biggest Tour.
The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open will count towards both the European and Challenge Tour Orders of Merit as well as the Asian Tour money list.
A total of 12 Australians will play the tournament, Euro Tour regulars Andrew Dodt, Scott Hend and Jason Scrivener being joined by Kalem Richardson, Sam Brazel, Terry Pilkadaris, Jake Higginbottom, Marcus Both, Nathan Holman, Adam Groom, Scott Barr and Unho Park.
Richardson will be confident coming into the week having finished one shot out of a play-off at the Indonesian Masters two weeks ago, his best result on the Asian Tour, and if he can continue that form could be a genuine contender this week.
With Europe’s top players in America for The Players the field strength is diluted and the likes of Richardson and talented youngsters Nathan Holman and Jake Higginbottom are all capable of being in the mix come Sunday.
Also a threat will be Scott Hend who has been in good form without quite being able to get the job done when in contention this season.
Jason Scrivener will also be motivated this week having played just five events since earning his card at last year’s Q-School.
The West Australian has missed his last three cuts and needs to amass some earnings quickly if he is to keep his playing privileges for next season.
