Percy, Baddeley race for FedEx finish line

With just two events remaining before the PGA TOUR’s FedEx Cup playoffs Aaron Baddeley and Cameron Percy have everything to play for at this week’s Quicken Loans tournament in Virginia.

Baddeley sits at 149th and Percy 145th on the rankings with the top 125 to make the playoffs and, more importantly, retain automatic playing privileges for 2016.

After this week’s event only next week’s opposite field Barracuda Championship and the Wyndham Championship in two weeks’ time remain to earn points.

Percy comes into the week off a decent finish at the Canadian Open while Baddeley, who missed the cut at Glen Abbey, was T10 the week before at the Barbasol Championship.

A strong finish this week is critical as the pair bid to avoid the four tournament play-off event which combines players from the Web.com and PGA TOURS to determine cards for the main circuit next year.

Robert Allenby, also in the field this week after last week’s withdrawal in Canada, is in an even more precarious position at 182nd on the FedEx Cup list but he has a one time career money list  exemption to fall back on should he not make the 125.

Allenby faced a similar scenario last year but managed to scrape in on the number, claiming the 125th card for the 2015 season.

With the WGC Bridegstone and US PGA Championships to be played back to back following this week several of the TOUR’s top players have elected to skip this event including Australia’s two highest ranked golfers Adam Scott and Jason Day.

Allenby, Percy and Baddeley will be joined in the field by John Senden and Steven Bowditch who are both comfortably inside the FedEx Cup cutoff number though Senden is yet to qualify for next week’s Bridgstone event.

At 51 in the World Rankings the Queenslander is agonisingly close, needing to move up one spot to get a start at Firestone next week.

A top five finish this week would likely earn him enough points to move to number 50 and his fourth start at Firestone where he has a best finish of T16 in 2012.
