After disappointing missed cuts at each of his last two Challenge Tour tournaments Terry Pilkadaris found some form in Northern Ireland with some good scoring and a top-20 finish.
The West Australian fired rounds of
69-65-71-70 for a 9-under total and T16, to be the best of the three
Australians in the field.
Pilkadaris has had limited starts the last
two months teeing up this week for just the fourth time since the Najeti Open
in France in June.
He finished outright fourth that week, his
best result of the season, and backed up with a T22 finish the following week
but struggled his next two starts with missed cuts at each.
He opened with 69 this week but made real
headway with a Friday 65, a score bettered by only two players on the day and enough
to move him into the top-10.
While his weekend play wasn’t quite to the
same standard he can be pleased with his week’s work and now sits just outside
the top-45 on the Order of Merit who automatically retain cards for next year.
Continuing his good form from Sunday of The
Open Scott Arnold got off to a flying start with a 66-67 opening to the week
but couldn’t keep the momentum going.
Heading to the weekend in a share of sixth
place Arnold struggled over the final two days with back to back rounds of
1-over 72 to slip to a share of 32nd.
A double bogey on his 13th hole
Saturday and a triple on his third hole Sunday were the lowlights in two
otherwise decent rounds of golf, Arnold still yet to put together four good
scores in a week.
Daniel Gaunt was the final Australian in
the field but missed the cut at 1-over through two rounds.
