Valente maintains position in New Caledonia

We may be competing in paradise this week at the South Pacific Open but the scores this morning were nothing to dream about.

"DanielOvernight leader Daniel Valente had a far more mixed day on course in the second round, reeling off four birdes and just as many bogeys for an even par 71.

"I got off to a slow starts, I bogeyed three of my first four holes," said Valente.

"I didn’t do too much wrong to be honest. I hit a nice tee shot on one and it just finished under a tree and I had no shot to chip it out and I made bogey."

"I three putted three and four which is a bit disappointing. I hit a shocking shot on six and made bogey."

"It’s one of those course you hit half a bad shot and you can be really penalised."

Still playing solid golf, Valente explains that there is a fine line between firing 7-under the card, as he did in the first round, and finishing the day square.

"Today I played reasonable well, sometimes it just doesn’t happen. There is a fine line between 7-under and even par, it’s just a good break here and there," added Valente.

"If you just miss it a little bit the ball can end up 60m off line at a drop of a hat. But if you are playing good then it can be a little easier, it’s a fine line."

Following the morning field of the second round, Valente continues to lead the tournament and while happy to still be in a good position he isn’t getting too far ahead of himself.

"I guess that’s nice I haven’t gone away from it," added Valente.

"There are a few guys that went low yesterday who are playing this afternoon, and there is no breeze this afternoon so you would expect someone to go kind of low."

"It’s going to be really windy the next two days and that kind of suits me so whatever happens, happens but I am pretty confident."

"My game is in good shape and even if someone is four or five shots ahead its nothing to kind of make-up that around here."

Sitting just a shot off the lead after playing two rounds are Alex Edge (NSW) and Daniel Fox (WA). The afternoon field is now on course.
