Scoring was hot in Emerald but it was Paul Maiolo who
produced the lowest round of the day.
With 14 Professionals breaking par in the opening round of
the Emerald Pro-Am the competiton is fierce however Maiolo who fired 7-under 63
holds the advantage.
Maiolo will take a two shot lead into the second round over
five Pros including David Delahunty who is competing on his home course.
Coming into the tournament in good form, Maiolo is happy to
see that translate onto his card in the opening round.
"My game has been on the improve over recent weeks, so it
was nice to have it all fall into place in today’s opening round," said Maiolo,
who was particularly successful on the greens today.
"I honestly made everything I could have today. When you
only have 20 putts for the round, you want to find yourself somewhere near the
top of the leaderboard."
"I am feeling good about my game, so hopefully I will see
the putts continue to fall tomorrow and I can secure a win at one of my
favourite stops on the Pro-Am scene."
Maiolo has now overtaken Marcus Cain to head the Onsite
Rental Group Mining Town Series and will be hunting a victory at the Emerald
Pro-Am when he tees off in the second and final round at 12.30pm on Sunday.
