Paradise
Palms has once again proven to be a difficult test for competitors following the
second round of the Qantas Golf Club Cairns Classic.
Overnight
leader Peter Wilson continues to hold the lead heading into the final round
following a 2-over 73.
Wilson sits
atop the leaderboard at 2-under the card, while prolific tournament winner
Jason Norris and Nicholas Russell sit just one shot behind.
Although it
was a struggle for Wilson out on course today, he remains in good form.
"Yesterday I
had a lot of putts which were straight up the hill which made it easy for me to
give them a run," said Wilson.
"I didn’t do
myself any favours today leaving myself with plenty of breaking putts which
made it difficult to make birdies as the greens quickened up."
"I am looking
forward to the challenge tomorrow of trying to win back-to-back tournaments but
it should also be a fun day playing with my mate Norrey (Jason Norris)."
In a day that
was full of highlights, Damian Jordan recorded a hole-in-one at the par-3 11th
hole and was delighted with it being just his second ace as a Pro.
"It was my
first shot of the day and I thought a little 9 iron was the club from 134m, I
just didn’t think it was going to be that good," said Jordan.
In another
rare feat, E-Z-GO PGA Legends Tour Pro David Hughes made an albatross on the
par-5 ninth hole after a perfectly struck 3 iron from 211m found its way to the
bottom of the cup.
The best
round of the day came from Victorian Lucien Tinkler who after shooting 78 in
round one, carded 5 birdies for a 2-under 69 which moved him into a tie for 16th
position.
The final
round of the Qantas Golf Club Cairns Classic gets under way at Paradise Palms
tomorrow at 11am Thursday with spectators welcome to watch the action free of
charge.
