A bogey free round of 4-under 68 saw Mitchell Brown take out the 2017 Eynesbury Masters.
Brown went through the 36 holes with only one bogey in the first round and credits his play from the tee as key to his win.
“That’s the best I’ve driven the ball for a while now, I don’t think I missed a fairway in two days,” Brown said.
“The course looks quite inviting off the tee but it’s really not, if you miss the fairway you’ve got an average lie, but if you hit the fairway you get an extra 30 or 40 metre run.”
This is Brown’s second win for the season following his first place tie with Anthony Houston in the Keysborough back in January. The win also means that Brown now leads the National Pro-Am Order of Merit as he moves on to the XXXX Gold Ballarat Pro-Am and the Kooringal Pro-Am.
Brown will then heads to New Zealand to play in the NZPGA Championships, a title he won back in 2012. These recent wins have boosted his confidence levels ahead of the upcoming Tour events.
“It’s always a good vibe going somewhere you’ve won before.”
The highlight of the day however might rest with Jin Jeong, despite battling to post a two round score to contend for the title, Jeong managed to ace the tough par 3 15th.
With the pin tucked in behind the bunker it wasn’t until Jeong and his playing partners arrived at the green they realised what had happened.
The Eynesbury Masters is the richest two day Pro-Am on the Victorian calendar. With a prize purse of $60,000 credit must go to Golf Operations Manager and local PGA Professional Brad Alton for pulling the event together. He managed to conjure up support from local businesses with Genesis Fitness coming onboard as the major sponsor for the 2017 event.
