Wade Ormsby will take a healthy dose of confidence from his finish as top Australian at the Hero Indian Open this week.
The South Australian is playing the 2017 season on a medical exemption and his T22 finish came at one of the toughest tests the players will face this year.
Ormsby and Terry Pilkadaris were the only two Australians to survive to the weekend at the Gary Player designed DLF Golf and Country Club which gave the field fits over the four days.
There were 59 rounds of 80 or worse recorded for the week and just seven players finished the 72 holes under par.
All of which makes Ormsby’s four round total of 5-over more impressive than it sounds on the surface, the 36-year-old playing consistent golf all week.
A final round of 71, one of only a handful of sub-par scores on Sunday, capped off the week nicely and moved Ormsby 15 places up the standings.
While Ormsby stitched together four good rounds it was a disappointing finish for Terry Pilkadaris after an excellent start.
The veteran was 1-under-par and just four from the lead after two rounds, enough for a share of ninth and well in the mix.
But a third round of 80 saw him plummet down the leaderboard as he made nine bogeys against a lone birdie.
Pilkadaris wasn’t the only player to fall victim to the golf course though, three other Australians also posting scores in the 80’s.
Marcus Fraser opened with an 82 while Scott Hend posted the same number in the second round as did recent winner Brett Rumford.
Todd Sinnott avoided the dreaded 80 by one shot in his second round but scores of 74-79 also saw him miss the weekend.
