The Ron Crouch Transport Wagga Wagga Pro-Am teed off on Thursday in tricky conditions but ISPS HANDA PGA Tour of Australasia Professional Jordan Zunic was able to find a two shot lead in a strong field.
Zunic fired 4-under 68 to be two shots ahead of NSW Professional Ben Clementson.
“I didn’t do anything special but had a great stretch of 5-under in 7 holes through the middle of the round. In that stretch I just hit the ball close and took advantage of the par-5’s,” said Zunic.
James Nitties was the only other player to break even par finishing 1-under 71 in the opening round, leaving the door wide open for the tightly packed field on Friday.
A group of eight players are on even par 72 including 2016 defending champion Dale Brandt-Richards, Taylor Cooper, Joe Darcy, Jordan Mullaney, Luke Whitbread, Matthew Giles, Jamie Hook and Edward Stedman.
