A fast finishing Rod Pampling led home the Australian charge at the RBC Heritage Classic in South Carolina, the 47-year-old saving his best round of the week till Sunday to charge up the leaderboard.

The Queensland veteran was one of three Australians to qualify for the weekend and fired a Sunday score of 4-under to climb 17 places up the leaderboard to T26.

Fellow Queenslander Cameron Smith was next best a stroke further back and T29 while Marc Leishman was the last of the Australians to play all four days and finished 2-under for the week and T44.

Smith made the best start of the eight Australians to begin the week with a 4-under 67 and be just outside the top-10 after 18 holes but couldn’t maintain that momentum with rounds of 70-71-71.

Leishman’s week unravelled in the third round with a 3-over 74 that dropped him well down the standings before a roller coaster final round which added up to even par.

The Arnold Palmer Invitational winner notched two eagles and a birdie on the front nine of his final round but undid all the good work with three bogeys and a double at the 72^nd hole.

Of the rest John Senden missed the cut by one after rounds of 72-70 while Steven Bowditch showed some positive signs despite not qualifying for the weekend.

Having been mired in a horrific slump for the best part of two years, the talented Queenslander opened with 18 consecutive pars in round one though missed the 1-under cut line with a second round of 1-over 72.

Former champion Aaron Baddeley will be disappointed with his week after missing the cut by three alongside Greg Chalmers while 2006 US Open champion Geoff Ogilvy missed the cut for just the second time in 11 starts at the event.
