Drewitt found the Eagle Point Golf Club in North Carolina to his liking over the 72 holes with rounds of 73-72-71-70 for a 2-under total and share of 32nd position.

Drewitt’s previous best finish came at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am when he was T33 but, more importantly, signalled his fifth made cut in 10 starts in his rookie season.

The result also moved Drewitt up the FedEx Cup standings as he takes aim at a top-125 finish by season’s end to retain playing privileges for 2018.

Drewitt was one of nine Australians to begin the week but one of only four to survive the 36 hole cut.

Among them was promising rookie Professional Curtis Luck who teed up for the second of seven allowed sponsor’s exemptions for the season.

After missing the cut on debut at the Valero Texas Open, Luck handled the difficult scoring conditions at Eagle Point well to be 2-over for the week and T52.

Adam Scott, playing his first event since the Masters, wasn’t sharp early in the week but ground out some decent scores to finish 1-under for the week and T36.

Matt Jones was the last of the Australians to play the weekend and while a final round 75 was disappointing and saw him slip to 5-over for the week, making the cut was important in amassing FedEx Cup points as he tries to regain his Tour card.

Jones started the week 123rd in the standings and despite slipping to 127th is in with a chance to finish in the top-125 and earn his place back on the TOUR.

Cameron Percy will be the most disappointed of the Australians to miss the cut after finding water with his second shot on the 36th hole to make a bogey and miss by one.

Percy has been showing signs of a return to form in recent weeks and will be frustrated not to have had an opportunity to play the weekend.

Also missing the cut were Stuart Appleby, Geoff Ogilvy, Greg Chalmers and Steven Bowditch.
