Professionals Ryan Haller and Paul Hayden both shot 6-under par 67 to be named joint winners of this year’s Oaky Creek Coal Tieri Pro-Am Monday afternoon.
It is Haller’s first visit to the Mining Towns and despite a bogey on his first and last holes he still managed a string of five birdies to close out his front nine holes, this put him in a nice position as he turned for the back-9.
“When I made bogey on my first hole I thought to myself oh no here we go, but then it all turned around with the string of birdies, I played consistent golf on my second nine holes which was good enough in the end,” Haller said.
Paul Hayden a previous winner of the Oaky Creek Coal Tieri Pro-Am, shot a steady round with seven birdies and just the one bogey on his way to 6-under par 67.
“It’s been a while since I have won a pro-am, so I am really pleased with how I played today and it is great to have a win,” Hayden said.
“I really enjoyed this course and it just keeps improving with each year we return, the volunteers really do an amazing job.”
The Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series leaderboard after two rounds has Steven Jeffress 10-under par with a two shot lead over Paul Hayden, with Brett Rankin a further shot back.
The next stop in the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series will be the Blackwater Golf Club where play begins at 7.00am Wednesday morning for the Purcell Engineering Blackwater Pro-Am with the leading players teeing off in the 11.30am field.
