""Victorian PGA Members gathered at Sandhurst Club on Wednesday 17 May for their Annual State Division Meeting and Foursomes Championship.

Before hitting the course, Members were given the latest update from PGA of Australia CEO Gavin Kirkman regarding the performance of the association over the past 12 months and the Board’s vision for the immediate future.

During the meeting a number of members were celebrated for their lengthy membership of the organisation.  Royal Melbourne’s longtime Head Professional Bruce Green received recognition alongside Peter Harvey for their 50 years continuous membership while Allan Silver reached 60 years along with the Bellarine Peninsula’s own Kel Llewellyn who kept the crowd entertained during his acceptance speech.

State Chairman Tim Moore also took the time to present outgoing Vice Chairman Darrell Brown with a gift and thanked him for his 15 years dedication to the state committee.

Post the formalities of the day, Members took to the North course at Sandhurst for the annual Victorian Foursomes to contest the Bob Shearer Shield, named after one of the country’s most well known Professionals.

It was two wily old veterans Mike Harwood and Lucien Tinkler who stole the show.  Harwood using the day as his last tune up before heading to the US for the upcoming US Senior PGA Championship at Trump National Golf course in Washington D.C.

The pair carded five birdies and only one bogey on the short Par 4 16th to take out the title with a 4-under 68. This victory, their second in the event coming almost 20 years after their first in 1998

The highlight of the day clearly came when Bob Shearer stood up to present the shield.  He entertained the room with stories from his playing days, something he hoped he could return to soon and thanked the PGA for bestowing him with the honor of naming the event after him.
