Another heavy fog greeted the 44 Professionals for the final round of the Onsite Rental Group Dysart Pro-Am and the last event in the Mining Towns Series.
After a significant delay, play finally got underway with the morning field needing to make up for lost time. Rick Coleman shot the low score of the morning field with a 3-under 69.
When the afternoon field teed off, all eyes were on the leading group of Brad Burns and Peter Martin, with the inform Brett Rankin just two shots behind, the stage was set for an exciting finish to the Onsite Rental Group Dysart Pro-Am.
Rankin shot an outstanding bogey free round of 7-under 65 to claim the Onsite Rental Group Dysart Pro-Am by five shots over Burns and Martin.
“My goal was just to play steady golf today, keep the ball in the fairway and hit the greens to allow myself as many opportunities for birdies as possible,” Rankin said.
“I’ve been playing well, I think early on in the series I was trying to play too aggressively, when I changed my thought process, that’s when I started to shoot some low numbers. I chipped in a couple of times yesterday and again today which really helped to spur me along.”
Burns and Martin were paired together and both could only manage an even par round of 72. “I didn’t play that poorly today, I was in position on the greens but just didn’t make the putts,” Martin said.
Burns had an up and down day with double bogey on the 7th hole and again on the 14th hole. “I made a couple of double bogeys today, which makes it extremely difficult to shoot a low score even on a course with birdie opportunities,” Burns said.
After 10 rounds of the Onsite Rental Group Mining Towns Series, Brett Rankin has claimed victory on 46-under par. Rankin was a little slow to find form early on in the Series but certainly found form at the right time claiming three consecutive victories in style.
Steve Jeffress who held the lead for most of the series finished in second position on 36-under par with Brad Burns claiming third position on 33-under par.
