Robbie Hogan has shown his class today, overcoming a two shot deficit to claim back-to-back Tony Hollands Funerals QLD PGA Trainee Championships.

Hogan recorded the joint low round of the day, a 2-under par 70 to finish at 5-under par, one shot ahead of joint overnight leader Frazer Droop.

Starting the day two shots behind, Hogan made his intentions early and through the opening six holes he had picked up three shots on the joint overnight leaders to now be one in front.

“I knew I needed to get off to a good start if I was to be in with a chance, and although it wasn’t all my own doing, it didn’t take too many holes to find myself in the lead," Hogan said

Further drop shots late on the opening nine by playing partners Frazer Droop and Ben Pisani, and Hogan’s lead was out to two as play headed into the back-9.

A birdie at the par-5 10^th hole extended Hogan’s lead to three, and although he now found himself in a commanding position, the final eight holes of the Long Pocket Course are some of the toughest.

Hogan wasn’t going to be denied and while Droop and Marco Zirov threw everything at Hogan down the stretch, Hogan remained in command of his game to hold on for a one shot win.

“I have once again really enjoyed my time at Indooroopilly, it’s an amazing facility and one that I feel right at home on,” added Hogan.

“This win has really set up the remainder of the year for me. I am really looking forward to finishing my Traineeship at Toukley Golf Club, becoming a full Vocational PGA Member and gaining my playing card on an international tour.

“The Asian Tour is where I will likely attempt to gain my playing rights for next year, but we will just have to wait and see and make a decision at the end of the year.”

It was a case of what could have been for Frazer Droop, who unfortunately incurred a two shot penalty early in today’s final round.

“It’s been a great week and although it was rough going early in my round today, it was nice to finish the week off the way that I did and almost force a playoff with Robbie over the closing holes," Droop said.

“Robbie played great all day and I am very happy for him and his win.”

“We now have a few months to prepare before the NSW/ACT PGA Trainee Championship is played at Riverside Oaks in early September."

Hogan joins the likes of Greg Norman and Ian Triggs to have won back-to-back Carnegie Clarke Cups as the QLD PGA Trainee Champion.
