Mike Harwood has posed his best result in more than 12-months with some impressive golf and a fourth place finish at the Scottish Senior Open at the weekend.

The Victorian was on song over the first two days at the Archerfield course making just one bogey in the first 36 holes.

However, three dropped shots on the back-9 on Sunday will be a bitter pill to swallow for Harwood who eventually finished two behind winner Paul Eales.

Peter Fowler took top Australian honours in a share of second one behind Eales, a 72nd hole birdie not quite enough to force extra time.

Harwood has been playing some steady golf on the over 50’s circuit in 2016 and while he will be disappointed with his finish in Scotland he wasn’t the only player to find Sunday’s scoring conditions difficult.

Only five golfers in the 54 man field broke 70 in the final round, overnight leader Ronan Rafferty slumping to a 78 and eventual winner Eales the only player in the field to post three rounds in the 60’s.

Fowler’s fourth top-10 finish in eight starts sees him fifth on the Order of Merit and on track to again be Australia’s leading senior player in Europe.

Peter O’Malley was the only other Australian to tee up in Scotland to finish T39 finish.
