Steve Jones and Ryan Haller have teamed up to claim the coveted QLD PGA Foursomes Championship today at Sanctuary Cove Golf and Country Club.
Jones and Haller were three shots behind heading into the afternoon round after an even par opening round,
However the pair emerged victorious after firing the low round of the day; 6-under the card enough to provide a two shot win.
“This is the fourth time we have played in this event and it’s great to be able to finally win,” said Haller.
“Foursomes is something we look forward to all year given the limited team events we play in. It’s nice to also enjoy the company of your mates in a fun event.”
“I won the event with Wayne Perske back in 2004. Steve and I have very different games so it was interesting for both of us to be playing from parts of the course we wouldn’t normally have done.”
Paul Hayden and partner Jacki Marshall finished tied for second with Sanctuary Cove locals Sam Price and Anthony Quayle.
The QLD Foursomes Championship has a rich history dating back to 1955. The championship’s honour role could rival any tournament across Australia with the likes of Ian Baker-Finch, Randall Vines, Peter Senior, Scott Hend and Michael Sim all etching their names on the Cup.
David Merriman teamed up with Peter Harrington to win the QLD Senior PGA Championship firing 72, 72 for a tournament total of 4-over the card.
The next best placed senior professionals were Peter Senior and Greg Rix who finished two shots further back.
The Trainee Foursomes Champions were Ben Pisani and Chris Crooks who fired rounds of 68, 76 for a total of 4-over the card to add their names to the prestigious Arthur Gazzard Memorial Trophy.
The next stop on the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am Series is the Altitude Wealth Solutions Windaroo Lakes Pro-Am to be held this Friday 8th September.
