Crawford recovers for top-15 finish in China

Two birdies at his final two holes has enabled Queenslander Cory Crawford to salvage a top-15 finish at the European Challenge Tour’s Foshan Open in China.

In contention to record his first win since the SP Brewery PNG Golf Open in 2017 following opening rounds of 66-65, Crawford stumbled with a 1-over 73 on day three and struggled over the opening holes of his final round on Sunday.

Four pars were followed by a bogey at the par-5 fifth, getting that dropped shot back at the next, the fourth day in succession he had birdied the par-4 sixth.

A second birdie at the par-4 13th was followed by a bogey at 16 but the Sanctuary Cove-based pro responded in fine fashion, playing the final two holes in five less shots than he had the day prior.

A co-sanctioned tournament with the China Golf Tour where Crawford has spent the majority of his 2019 season, the result delivered the 27-year-old his best cheque of the season and saw him rise to 17th on the Order of Merit.

After a missed cut this week Kiwi Josh Geary will need a strong result at the season-ending Challenge Tour Grand Final to earn a European Tour card for 2020.

The top 15 on the Order of Merit following the Grand Final earn automatic promotion with Geary currently in 24th place.

The China Golf Tour season wraps up with the China Tour Championship at the end of November with Queenslander Maverick Antcliff holding an unassailable lead at the top of the Order of Merit.
