opening round of the Qantas Golf Club Cairns Classic

"PeterWilson leads the
unique tournament staged at Paradise Palms by one shot over Nicholas Russell,
while one of the pre-tournament favourites Jason Norris is a further shot back
in third.

It is the
first time this unique tournament format has been used, where the Professionals
from Sunshine Swing compete for the same prizemoney as their counterparts on
the E-Z-GO Legends Tour, each playing from different tees.

Fresh off his
win at the Samoan Open last week, Wilson is in hot form as he looks to win
back-to-back tournaments.

"It is a
similar climate to that of Samoa so I have acclimatised pretty well given what
the weather at home is like at the moment," said Wilson.

"Paradise
Palms is a real thinker’s course, and you need to plan your way around the
course if you want to give yourself a chance to post a good score."

Wilson is
enjoying being back in good form after a serious illness affected him for 18
months while he held his Japan Tour card.

"It has been
a challenging 18 months. I got an internal infection whilst playing on the
Japanese Tour in 2015 which went undiagnosed for too long," added Wilson.

"I have had
to change my diet to ensure I remain healthy, but I am just glad to be back
competing."

Also in contention are multiple tournament winners Nicholas
Russell(68), Jason Norris(69), Adam Stephens and Damien Jordan(70) with the
leading E-Z-GO PGA Legends Professional being David Hando(73).
