Matthew Stieger has taken out the Central Connect Kooindah Waters Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am by a staggering seven shots.
After sharing the overnight lead with five others, Stieger blew the field away with a course record breaking 7-under 65 in the final round. His rounds of 71 and 65 for an 8-under par total of 136 were nothing short of brilliant given the testing conditions both days.
The last day was set up to be exciting with such a congested leaderboard but all the excitement was centred around one player.
Stieger started with a couple of bogeys early in the round then would reel off 9 birdies in 15 holes. His course record smashed the previous mark by three shots.
“The golf course was playing tough but I had a lot of fun out there. I suppose you’re going to when you play like that," Stieger said.
"I putted really well today and this round will give me great confidence for next week where I’m off to Japanese Q School."
Tied for runner up were two overnight leaders Ben Clementson, Brody Martin and Michael Long on 1-under 143. The experienced West Australian would join the overnight pair by shooting 3-under 69 which would be the only other round in the 60’s over the two days.
Rounding out the top-5 was recent Mulpha Castle Hill Pro-Am winner Anthony Summers with 3-over par 147.
